The interdisciplinary research project integrity – culture concerns integrity of smart textiles in a metropolitan context, Tokyo. The purpose has been to explore metropolitan culture and to investigate how new technologies in clothing can be integrated in this urbanity.

A collection regarding the developed concept of hiding and seeking – creating or sharing space/ communicate demonstrates how garments including smart textiles can be integrated in an urban environment: parts that can be inflated create either space and provide the wearer a shelter from the crowd, offering something to lean on and rest or to invite other people to lean on it and share; a dress with an extended part printed with thermo chromic ink invites people to sit on it, thereby making communication and getting into touch with people easier; clothes that have integrated lumitech-technology use light as a medium to communicate different things in different ways by making it reacting to different environmental circumstances.
